Robert Pattinson In David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis

Fiona June 5, 2013 1 comment
Robert Pattinson We already had a little chat about Cosmopolis, but who cares! This one is huge, it comes straight from director David Cronenberg and today we're here to report that Twilight star Robert Pattinson has joined this project as well! You probably know that Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti are already involved in the whole thing…unfortunately without Colin Farell in the movie. As you see, Pattinson is quite lucky guy, since he'll have a chance to portray “…Eric Packer, a 28-year-old multi-billionaire asset manager who makes an odyssey across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut. The stretch limo which adorns the cover of the book is richly described as highly technical and very luxurious, filled with television screens and computer monitors, bulletproofed and floored with Carrara marble. It is also cork lined to eliminate (though unsuccessfully, Packer notes) the intrusion of street noise. Like James Joyce's Ulysses, Cosmopolis covers roughly one day of time and includes highly sexed women and the theme of father-son separation. Packer's voyage is obstructed by various traffic jams caused by a presidential visit to the city, a funeral procession for a Sufi rap star and a full-fledged riot. Along the way, the hero has several chance meetings with his wife, seeing her in a taxi, a bookstore, and lying naked in the street, taking part in a movie as an extra. Meanwhile, Packer is stalked by two men, a comical “pastry assassin” and an unstable “credible threat”. Through the course of the day, the protagonist loses incredible amounts of money for his clients by betting against the rise of the yen, a loss that parallels his own fall. Packer seems to relish being unburdened by the loss of so much money, even stopping to make sure he loses his wife's fortune as well, to ensure his ruin is inevitable.” Before casting began, Cronenberg, who has written the screenplay, told that “Everyone's happy with the script,” and that it's a project he's “very fond of.” Production on Cosmopolis is expected to start in Toronto in May, with a release date in 2012. Congrats to Rob!

    Yes, I like this article.

I’m looking forward to this film. I like strange and off the wall movies – doesn’t get much more off the wall than Dead Ringers – and I like Robert Pattinson. I like Colin Farrell too, but I’m glad to see Rob breaking away from the whole Twilight character and taking on diverse roles. I would see this film with both actors, but I think this is a great career move for Rob, where as Colin is already established.

Cool that it’s in Toronto, because that’s where I’m from. They always turn it into NYC. They are also filming Colin Farrell’s movie here.
