The screen legend Woody Allen has been engaged in acting and directing his latest film The Bop Decameron last summer, which title has changed to Nero Fiddled back in October, and is now even closer to a reality as Sony Pictures Classics has just announced their acquisition of Allen's next project.
In 2009 SPC produced Whatever Works, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, as well as Allen's last comedy Midnight in Paris, which grossed $144 million worldwide and received four Golden Globe nominations on the way to major Oscar buzz.
Therefore, 76-year-old filmmaker said:
I've had a number of very good experiences working with Sony Classics, culminating most recently with Midnight in Paris. They seem to be very sensitive to the kind of films I make, and I'm looking forward to working with them now again.
Allen has stepped in front of the camera for the first time since 2006′s Scoop, after five films solely planted behind it to take on a starring role alongside Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig, Ellen Page and Italian actress Alessandra Mastronardi, who, until now, has mainly starred in Italian films and TV shows.
Nero is a vignette styled romantic-comedy film that takes place in Rome, another beautiful city, and is expected to be released in the summer of 2012.
