Eternal bachelor George Clooney who recently picked up three personal Golden Globe nominations will next write and direct an adaptation of Robert M. Edsel’s book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, the true story of a hand-picked group of art experts chosen by the U.S. government to retrieve artwork stolen by the Nazis. Clooney is co-writing with his longtime producing partner Grant Heslov again as well.

Principal photography has begun on Ben Affleck‘s upcoming dramatic thriller Argo. Will somebody please open that champagne now? No? Well, I don’t care, I hate that shit anyway.

And when it comes to Affleck’s Argo – I do care, not because I’m crazy about the story or something like that, but because as usual with Affleck we have some great cast on board. It includes Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Victor Garber, Richard Kind and Michael Parks. And that’s enough for me!

Ben Affleck in Talks to Direct Argo

Ben Affleck is now in talks to direct Argo.

I know, I know, it’s confusing, but as you see, the guy is very busy these days!

This time, we’re here to talk about a project based on a 2007 Wired magazine article about the 1979-80 Tehran hostage crisis.

But, what also sounds interesting at the moment is that George Clooney and Grant Heslov (The Men Who Stare at Goats) are attached to this one as producers!

Chris Terrio (Heights) wrote the script based on the article titled How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran which chronicles an effort by the CIA and the Canadian government to rescue six U.S. diplomats from the U.S. Embassy that was controlled by Iranian revolutionaries.

Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit. According to Cassady, the New Earth Army is changing the way wars are fought. A legion of “Warrior Monks” with unparalleled psychic powers can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it.

Overture Films has debuted character wallpapers for “The Men Who Stare at Goats” today, featuring the four leads:  George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges .

Judging by the very cool trailer and the quality of the cast,  it’s going to be a bleeding corker.

A reporter (McGregor), trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails, gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent (Clooney) who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit has gone missing and the trail leads to another psychic soldier who has distorted the mission to serve his own ends.
