Shutter Island Synopsis: It’s 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Shutter Island’s Ashecliffe Hospital. He’d been gunning for an assignment on the island for reasons of his own—but before long he wonders whether he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister.
Teddy’s code-breaking skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues proliferate, Teddy begins to doubt everything—his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.

Martin Scorsese directing Frank Sinatra Biopic
Martin Scorsese will direct and produce a film about the life of famed singer Frank Sinatra. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams, Sneakers) is writing the screenplay based off the life of the late singer and actor for Universal Pictures and Mandalay Pictures.
Sinatra was born in Hoboken, N.J., and raised during the Depression; he built a singing career that weathered many changes in popular culture, all the while racking up 31 gold records and countless other honors. He also had a successful career as an actor, earning an Oscar for 1953’s From Here to Eternity.
His personal life was just as eventful. He suffered from depression, was alleged to have connections to organized crime and was married four times; two of his wives were Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow. He passed away 1998.
The music rights have been secured and the Sinatra family has given its permission, which is not an easy get. Frank’s youngest daughter Tina Sinatra will be an executive producer, which would lead many to believe that the film would probably be on the less controversial side. However, Tina has told journalists in the past that she would “trust Scorsese implicitly” to “present the truth” about her father.
Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman are producing the film.

Day-Lewis And Del Toro To Star In Scorsese’s Silence
Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro are negotiating with Martin Scorsese to star in his next movie “Silence.” Gael Garcia Bernal is also in talks to star in Scorsese’s upcoming film.
The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo which was adapted by Jay Cocks.
The drama is set in the 17th century as two Jesuit priests face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.
“Silence” would mark the third time that Day-Lewis and Scorsese have worked together. They previously collaborated on 1993’s “The Age Of Innocence” and “Gangs Of New York” from 2002, for which Day-Lewis was nominated for an Oscar. The film would be the first collaboration for Martin Scorsese and Benicio Del Toro.
Scorsese most recently completed an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel “Shutter Island” for Paramount with Leonardo DiCaprio starring.
Production is expected to start later this year in New Zealand.
Robert De Niro Returns To Gangster Role With Martin Scorsese
Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese will team up on organized crime drama “I Heard You Paint Houses.”
The studio has attached Steve Zaillian (American Gangster, Schindler’s List) to adapt “I Heard You Paint Houses,” a book by Charles Brandt about the mob assassin Frank “the Irishman” Sheeran who many believe had something to do with the disappearance and presumed death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. The title comes from how mobsters inquire about a hitman and hiring them for a job. However, this code has also led to unfortunate miscommunications resulting in very alive targets happily residing in freshly painted homes.
According to Variety, De Niro will play Sheeran.
The last time Scorsese and De Niro worked together was on “Casino” in 1995 and Goodfellas before that.
No production date has been set.
Robert De Niro reveals future film plans
Robert De Niro has revealed that he is planning two sequels for ”The Good Shepherd,” his CIA drama. The original, which starred Matt Damon as a spy in the Cold War, grossed under $100 million in 2006.
Although the first was not a box office success, De Niro confirmed he is developing ideas for a second and third film.
He would like to make two sequels to CIA Cold War drama ”The Good Shepherd,” one bringing the action forward from 1961 to 1989, the other following its hero, Edward Wilson (Matt Damon), up to the present day.
Robert De Niro received a lifetime achievement award at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Friday, where his ”What Just Happened?” opened the festival, and discussed his plans for the future:
His long collaboration with Martin Scorsese which he ascribed to the fact it’s always been “a lot of fun to work” together should produce at least two more films, De Niro said.
He is already working on his next project with Scorsese, which he declined to detail, which should be ready by 2009, he said.
De Niro said he was “superstitious about talking about it.”
Speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival last week, De Niro told that he may begin researching the projects while he is in Europe.
Talking about his co-star, Bruce Willis in his new film ”What Just Happened” he said:
“[He] had a real good sense of humour about himself.”
De Niro added his views to the debate over a possible strike by actors in Hollywood, coming down firmly against any work stoppage. He has opposed strike action over US film and television actors’ pay.
The Screen Actors Guild and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have yet to agree terms, with new media work a particular sticking point, despite a previous contract expiring at the end of last month.
“I do not think it is a good time to be striking,” said De Niro. “All the trade unions are affected by the strike. With the economy as it is at this time, it does not seem to be a great idea.”
