Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo) makes his directorial debut with this coming-of-age comedy which follows an overweight, depressed teenager (Jacob Wysocki) who becomes friends with a high school dropout and street musician who’s forming a punk band. As the musician’s drug issues come to light, the teenager’s father becomes increasingly worried about the friendship.
It also stars Bill Campbell (The Killing), Matt O’Leary, and Lili Simmons.
Fat Kid Rules the World, which is based on the popular young adult novel by KL Going and written by Michael M.B. Glavin and Peter Speakman, will be screened tonight at SXSW.
