First Look: Gris Grimly’s Concept Art For Guillermo Del Toro’s PINOCCHIO

Pinocchio_Concept_Art It's not much, but it's all I've got — the first official concept art for Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio has been revealed. However, Guillermo del Toro will reportedly follow his alien invasion/monster movie Pacific Rim with this stop-motion feature. Del Toro's first animated feature will take a year to shoot, so if the start date is the summer of 2013, we're rather certain that Pinocchio won't release until 2015. Pacific Rim is scheduled for release on July 12th, 2013. Gris Grimly, who illustrated a 2002 version of Pinocchio book, was originally attached to direct with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox), but due to the complexity of the production process, Del Toro recently decided to take the top job. He told Variety:
Little by little, I realised that I should direct.
Academy Award-nominated Mexican filmmaker has developed ideas by Grimly and Del Toro collaborator Matthew Robbins provides the screenplay. Other names in the frame for the new take on Pinocchio include Nick Cave, who is lined up as the film's music consultant, Tom Waits as puppet-carving pop Geppetto and Donald Sutherland to voice the cunning Fox that our hero meets on his travels.
