Gabrielle Union Set to Star in the Indie Dramedy Family Tree

Family Tree, Cast

It seems like it was a good move for Gabrielle Union. She changed talent agencies a few months ago and this is the third film that she's been cast in within a month. Union is currently shooting Tyler Perry's Good Deeds and was also just cast in Screen Gems' Think Like a Man.

And now, Gabrielle Union along Jena Malone, Zach Gilford and John Slattery is set to star in the indie dramedy Family Tree. Lesser known director/writer  Brian Savelson is helming from his own script.

Story circles around characters played by Slattery and Gilford. They star as an estranged father and son who just by coincidence wrapped up in the same vacation home with their two girlfriends. Union will play Slattery's love-interest who's almost the same age as his son, which makes for some pretty awkward encounters. Malone will play Gilford's girlfriend.

Production of Family Tree is scheduled to begin this June in upstate New York.

I have a comment in regards to casting — Slattery is only ten years older then Gabrielle Union but his gray hair on his head makes him look older. However, he recently cropped up alongside Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau and he also played Robert Downey Jr.'s father in Iron Man 2.

As for Malone he recently starred in Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch and he also figures in a trio of films — the lesbian teen romance Jack and Diane, M. Blash's drama The Wait and the Paul Dano/Jon Heder feature For Ellen.

Gilford is best known for his starring role in the TV series Friday Night Lights as well as in recently canceled ABC's Off the Map, and can currently be seen in James Gunn's dark, strange comedy Super.

Let's take a look at Brian Savelson 's first short film Counting Water that won a Special Jury Award for Best Short at the Atlanta Film Festival. Produced for $17, a short animated fairy tale about what happens when love is tested.
