Johnny Depp As Mad Hatter First Look?

Fiona April 27, 2014 34 comments
Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter The photo of Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter for Tim Burton's 3D twisted Disney's adaptation of  “Alice in Wonderland” has hit the net. It looks like a fake or some concept art but still interesting to see. Actually, this photo comes from Depp fansite Johnny-Depp.org so, maybe you can judge it? I am a Johnny fan but..he looks creepy..and not in a good way; even worse than how he looked in Burton’s “Charlie & the Chocolate Factory”…just…wow. since when was the mad hatter a closet vampire/gay fashion designer?

Um, they meant him to look creepy. He’s supposed to be INSANE, not cute! If u wanna judge the director by saying he matched the costume to the character well, them go ahead. Either way, I still think it looks good, and Johnny depp did a great job acting as mad hatter, LOVE the character!!!!

Wow. He looks awesome in any costume! My favorite is Edward Scissorhands, besides Cap’n Jack of course!

this is by far the craziest costume that Johnny has ever worn. dont get me wrong his role of Willy Wonka was weird, but this is over the top, even for Tim

I like it. I dont get why you wouldnt because if you knew johnny depp and tim burton there a little off (in a good way) anyway. Plus its alice in wonderland which is a drug trip so it can be however crazy. and hes the MAD hatter. and i dont like it because im goth because im not at all but just because its his way of artistically doing alice in wonderland. and i think its good.

I absolutely adore it! I honestly don’t care how “scary” he looks. The Mad Hatter is supposed to be crazy and well… MAD. i think it fits him. And i honestly dont think he looks like a gay-transvestite-looking guy- he just looks…clown-like, thats all. Now, I love Tim Burton’s style in every single way, and pretty much what ever he comes up with is fine by me,just as long as Johnny depp feels comfortable wearing it too. The only thing i will say is that i’m a bit iffy on the whole 3D thing, im not sure how good thats gonna look. But hey, i’ll role with it for now.

WTF!! OK, Mr. Burton- you have officially fell off the boat… Disney should pull the plug!

this is NOT a copy of American McGee’s Alice. The Mad Hatter version in the game was a huge machine type of being. and had no hair at all….but I hope to god it’s fake…it looks terrible. too makeupy.

wat is wrong with you people?!?!?!? johnny fepp is an amazing actor. he will pull this off, just as he did with edward scissorhands, pirates of the carribean 1, 2, AND 3, sweeney todd, and charlie and the chocolate factory, and all his other movies. he IS the mad hatter. this is going to be one of his best movies, i can feel it! i though i was going to absolutely HATE charlie and the chocolate factory, but its now one of my absolute favorits, so shut up with all the negativeness!and yeah, his costume is a little freaky, when whenis it not? in sweeney todd, hes covered in blood. in edward scissorhands, hes in a black body suit with gigantic knives as hands. in charlie and the chocolatte facotory, he just looked strange and unlike himself, but thts the whole idea! hes not supposed to portray himself, hes supopsed to look like the character in the mnovie. and yeah its freaky, but its tim burton, so what did u expect
? for him to be prancing around singing songs? cause i sure as hell did NOT.

I think if this redition of the character isn’t by Tim Burton, whoever designed it should get some mad kudos.

If you were such a big Johnny fan that you would of started hating him from when he started working with Burton which was in the beginning of his career. Becauseee Hello! Did you not see him in Edward? Because he deffinitly didn’t look creepy than. All you silly fan girl just was to see him dolled up and shirtless, sooo oh well (:

Besides the point, I’m a very big big big Burton fan and I’m very excited for this movie. I love all his visions and respect him highly as an artist. So maybe you should leave your confidence in him because he is going to do a great job, I know it.

johnny depp is talented! extremly so by me any movie he’s in will be a success all of them have been. in every movie i have believed he is the character isn’t that the point. he actually gets into the role he is meant to be playing and portrays the character as him self so well! and tim burton works amazingly well with johnny they have made great movies in my point of view becaus they dont just have an actor director reltionship but they are betsfriends.
johnny only takes roles that he can surprise people with what would be the fun in it otherwise?

Don’t get me wrong, I think Johnny Depp is a great actor, but I am not on board with this hatter representation at all. Depp is right for a lot of parts, but I don’t think this is one of those parts. I don’t think his voice is right for the part, and I don’t have faith in his ability to sink into the character enough that we will be watching Carroll’s hatter and not a Depp performance. In his defence, I’d also attribute this to the fact that he’s hugely famous. I think a lesser-known actor would be help the story more. There’s nothing worse than a great story being overshadowed by huge actors.

I don’t want to prematurely judge this movie, because I’m desperately hoping that it will be sophisticated enough to avoid another bastardization of great literature, that Hollywood has become so fond of.

    Please do this right, Burton!
    Pleeeeeeease!

OK FRIST OFF, He is not making a live action Alice in Wonderland, no that is Disney's inbread bastard child. This is the one and only Alice's Adventures in Wonderland written by Lewis Carrol. Disney got a hold of it and made it Kid Friendly ( AKA take out characters, change scenes, add scenes, and basicly re-wright one of the best books ever) want's more is that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland had a sequel titled Through the Looking Glass. Disney thought it would be a good idea to try to sqweeze both storys into one short film. Tim Burton will not do a "twisted Disney’s adaptation" of the film but the frist Real film of the books. If you are looking for these books I suggest picking up the OXFORD WORLD'S CLASSICS version it has both story's in one book same some shelf space. ( BEWARE OF ALTRED BOOKS) the origanal is kind of hard to find.

I'm not sure about this movie, I myself have read the original Alice In Wonderland books and even though they're not as "kid friendly" as the Disney version or the movie, I think that this movie may make it that much more twisted, in fact I think it would be so much better if film makers just left the whole story alone, it was probably a mistake for Carrol to publish a book he wrote when he was high and an even bigger mistake for people like the ones at Disney to fantasize the whole thing. Now Burton wants to show everyone how the so called fairy tale was probably truly imagined by Carrol, not a good idea when it comes to most kids who will probably see the previews and for alot of adults who have always liked it. I think it should just be left alone.

if you think about it really the pictures from the book are slightly creepy so its only right that tim burtons version shows the darker side to alice in wonderland that disney didnt portray. this is going to be a sick movie i cant wait to see it =)

I went and saw an early screening of “Alice In Wonderland” Tuesday evening and the movie is awesome in 3D. John Depp is awesome in the role of Hatter and is my fave role yet of his. It’s like the role, costume and makeup was made for him.. Say what you want to about John Depp and The role of Hatter, but he does a kick assed job with it!
