Kreuk is Chun-Li in Vancouver-bound ‘Street Fighter’
Vancouver actress and Smallville star Kristin Kreuk will topline Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li, based on the Japanese video game franchise. The actress will play the heroine Chun-Li.
Meanwhile, Michael Clarke Duncan, Chris Klein and Rick Yune have joined the project, according to Variety. Duncan will play Balrog, while Klein is stepping into the role of Nash. Yune will take on the mantle of the mystical Gen.
Producers are still casting the film's villain, Bison.
20th Century Fox will distribute the film, set to begin filming in March in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and here in Vancouver.
With Smallville gearing up to begin shooting new episodes to close out its seventh season over the next couple of weeks, Kreuk will work around her responsibilities to the popular CW skein.
The Street Fighter script, written by Voltron writer Justin Marks, will be helmed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds). Hong Kong fight choreographer Dion Lam (The Matrix) will stage the extreme fight sequences.
“Street Fighter” was previously made into a film back in 1994, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, and produced by Universal.
