Mia Maestro to Join the Cast of Oliver Stone’s Upcoming The Savages

Mia Maestro, Savages

Multitalented Argentine actress and singer, best known as Christina Kahlo in Frida, Mía Maestro has joined the cast of Oliver Stone's Savages, an adaptation of the Don Winslow novel. John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Del Toro, Emile Hirsch, Salma Hayek and Blake Lively already joined the cast.

In Don Winslow's New York Times bestseller Savages two young marijuana dealers (Hirsch and Johnson) refuse to back down after they are blackmailed by a Mexican Baja Cartel. Two young pot dealers in Laguna Beach have been doing quite for themselves bringing in the money but are beginning to get bored. The Mexican drug business is cracking down and the cartels are looking for new markets in Southern California. So they send a charming little video to our two heroes showing them the execution of the last competitors who didn't want to work with them. The message is clear; we are your new boss. When they refuse to back down, the cartel escalates to threat of kidnapping Ophelia (Lively), the boys' girlfriend and confidante.

Maestro will portray Del Toro's wife, very bitter, tough woman whose soccer mom lifestyle hides a shady gang-life past.

The script is penned together by Stone, Winslow and Shane Salerno.

Shooting will start this summer for a September 28, 2012 release by Universal Pictures.

Maestro will next be seen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn an upcoming 2011/2012 two-part romantic-fantasy movie directed by Bill Condon, as a part of the group of vampires known as the Covenant. She will also star opposite vet Sam Shepard in Gary Lankford's yet to be released court room drama Border Crosses.
