Brooke Shields, Melanie Griffith, Daryl Hannah,
Camryn Manheim and
Wanda Sykes are suiting up for the New Orleans-shot basketball comedy
Hot Flashes, directed by
Susan Seidelman (Boynton Beach Club).
Set to start shooting on February 13th, 2012, the film tells the story of a group of middle-aged Texas women — all of them former high school champs — who challenge the current girls' high-school state champs to a series of games to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
As the women go to extreme measures to prove themselves, they also become a national media sensation as well as gaining a new lease on life.
All five actresses have been in town attending a basketball boot camp over the weekend (photo), led by former WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) president Donna Orender, the sports advisor for the film.
Sidelman said in a news release the film is as much a statement on aging as it anything else:
I was drawn to this script because of its comedic approach in addressing the negative stereotypes of aging. It's about time women of a certain age were portrayed on screen in vibrant ways, and I'm convinced there is a big audience out there who will readily identify with this powerful story.
The Hot Flashes is independently financed by private investors, mostly women from Silicon Valley and domestic distribution deal is expected to be announced shortly.
