Red State Hits VOD This September via Lionsgate

Lionsgate / Red StateLionsgate, a leading diversified global entertainment company, and SModcast Pictures announced today that they have partnered to create an innovative approach to distribute Kevin Smith’s controversial thriller Red State, announced Jim Packer, Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television and Digital Distribution, and SModcast’s Kevin Smith.

Under the terms of the arrangement, Lionsgate obtains the rights to distribute the title on all packaged media, Video-On-Demand (VOD), Subscription Video-On-Demand (SVOD), Electronic Sell-Through (EST) and Television in the United States, while SModcast has retained the theatrical distribution rights throughout the US. Under the guidance of marketing and distribution executive David Dinerstein, Smith’s self-distribution label SModcast Pictures and Lionsgate Films have devised a multi-tier release strategy unlike any independent film to date. The film is scheduled to release on multiple platforms this September followed by packaged media before the end of the year.

The seventh poster from Kevin Smith‘s first horror film Red State has arrived. The poster shows James Parks as “Mordechai”, one of the crazy clan members.

Here’s Sundance’s Red State synopsis: “Ever since Clerks  (cowinner of the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival), Kevin Smith has been known for his sharp, subversive, comedic writing. He shifts from comedy to horror with Red State and aptly demonstrates that good writing transcends genre.

Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda.

Kevin Smith has released the sixth poster through an auction for his upcoming horror movie Red State, which features Melissa Leo’s character, Sarah.

Due in theaters next year, the film focuses on a group of rebels who fight against extreme fundamentalism in Middle America and will make you yell before it makes you laugh. With the film being totally indie, Smith used the internet for an open approach to promote the film. He already announced that Red State would be in the Sundance Film Festival in the non-competition section.

Thanks to fans donating $1,000 to The Wayne Foundation, an organization that fights against child rape, director Kevin Smith has unveiled the second poster for the upcoming horror film Red State, featuring Kerry Bishe who plays the character of Cheyenne in the film. Rumor has it that Cheyenne’s a virgin.

As well, we have four new photos form the thriller, which come courtesy of The Sundance website.

Kevin Smith unveiled the official teaser poster for his $4 million Red State political horror film starring Kyle Gallner, Melissa Leo, Dermot Mulroney, Michael Angarano, Steven Root, Michael Parks, and John Goodman.

The film, which Smith wrote and directed, tells the tale of a group who cross paths with some extreme fundamentalists.

Kevin Smith’s Red State Cast

Oscar nominated Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Kyle Gallner (Jennifer’s Body, A Nightmare on Elm Street), Michael Angarano (The Forbidden Kingdom), Stephen Root (Mad Money, Leatherheads, Office Space) are all in talks to co-star in the upcoming Kevin Smith‘s horror movie titled Red State.

Before these casting announcements, we heard that Michael Parks previously had been cast, and looks that he’s definitely in some good team now…

The plot of Red State is still a secret, although Smith has described it as an attack on hateful stereotypes, including Westboro Baptist Church leader Fred Phelps.

And, although he has yet to finish the script, he revealed that filming will begin on September 22nd, so all the casting deals should be finalized by then.
