Berlinale 2012: TABU by Miguel Gomes
One of the movies that will compete for this year Golden Bear is Tabu, which comes from Portuguese director Miguel Gomes.
What's definitely the most interesting thing about this project is that the first part of the film is in black-and-white and portrays a society wallowing in nostalgia, while the second part delivers everything they long for: stirring melodrama, slapstick, juxtaposition and passion.
Tabu is actually a story of a temperamental old lady, her Cape Verdean maid and her neighbour who is committed to social causes.
After the old lady's death, the other two women find out about an episode from her past: a story of love and crime set in an Africa that looks like something out of an adventure movie.
I think that's the best explanation of the photos you already see in this report (just in case you were confused about the crocodile – part!).
Teresa Madruga, Laura Soveral, Ana Moreira, Carloto Cotta, Isabel Cardoso, Ivo Müller and Manuel Mesquita all star in Tabu, and as usual, we wish them good luck at the Festival!
