HBO's latest documentary, Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes, offers a riveting dive into the life of one of Hollywood's most iconic stars. Premiering on August 3rd, 2024, this documentary brings Elizabeth Taylor's voice back to the forefront, narrating her own story through newly unearthed interviews and rare personal archives.

Elizabeth Taylor was more than just a glamorous Hollywood star; she was a trailblazer who defied the era's expectations and became a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community. The documentary, directed by Nanette Burstein, known for her acclaimed works such as On the Ropes and American Teen, provides the most intimate portrait of Taylor to date. Produced by a powerhouse team including J.J. Abrams, Sean Stuart, Glen Zipper, Bill Gerber, and Rachel Rusch Rich, the film is a collaboration between Zipper Bros, Gerber Pictures, Sutter Road Picture Company, and Bad Robot, in association with House of Taylor.

The documentary is built around a candid, extensive interview Taylor had with journalist Richard Meryman in 1964, at the height of her fame. The film draws from 40 hours of newly recovered audio interviews, offering a deeply personal glimpse into her thoughts and experiences. Additionally, it features extraordinary access to Taylor's personal photos, home movies, interviews, and news footage, all illustrated with clips from her iconic roles that mirror her real-life challenges and triumphs.
