Julianne Moore's tentatively coming back to the blockbuster world, taking on a villainous role in Warner Bros' The Seventh Son, alongside Jeff Bridges who signed on to play a few weeks back.
Moore (Shelter, Hannibal) will star opposite Jeff Bridges (Tron: Legacy) in the adaptation of Joseph Delaney's The Spook's Apprentice, the first installment in the fantasy-adventure series The Wardstone Chronicles. This represent Warner Bros. Pictures second attempt in decade at an exorcism movie.
Moore will play Mother Malkin, the most evil of witches who practices blood magic. Bridges was earlier cast as Exorcist Master Gregory, aka The Spook.
The plot is based on a 13-year-old farm boy named Tom who lives in the countryside of The County. Because Tom is the seventh son of a seventh son he is able to see things others cannot, such as boggarts, ghasts, ghosts and others, which is customary practice in The County.
Previous negotiation was of Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) and Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) to fill the roles of Tom and Alice in that order. But since Lawrence's recent casting in The Hunger Games, and Pettyfer's star rising, it looks like the roles will go to another two approaching stars.
Julianne Moore really was outstanding in The Kids Are All Right, one of the greatest performances in a career that isn't just starving for big shots. Besides, Moore's around three films a year for the last decade, including Steve Carell/Ryan Gosling comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love along with the Robert De Niro drama Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, and she freshly signed on to play Sarah Palin in HBO‘s Game Change.
Nomad: The Warrior and Mongol: the Rise of Genghis Khan director Sergei Bodrev is making his first English language unveiling on the project from a screenplay by Max Borenstein.
Production begins September 13 in Vancouver, with Legendary Pictures producing.
