Films starring superheroes are some of the most popular movies of all time and nearly every movie star expresses interest in playing a super hero in a comic book movie.
21 Jump Street star
Channing Tatum is no exception to the trend as he recently revealed that he would love to play the
X-Men‘s
Gambit on the big screen.
Now,
X-Men producer
Lauren Shuler Donner reveals that she would also like to see a
Gambit movie with Tatum as the lead.
Shuler-Donner had this to say about the film:
I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart.
Donner seems to be suggesting an inexpensive approach, one that will keep things on the cheap, especially for a character that isn't one of a dominant top tier characters of Marvel.
Tatum described a charming master thief turned X-Man at a
White House Down press conference last year:
Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He's a thief. He kind of rode the line.
Despite the star and producer are thinking along the same lines, the film still doesn't have official studio approval and Donner needs to convince Fox. We'll see where the project goes from there.
