Common-Chicago-bred rapper, who also voiced some popular video games, has joined the cast of the independent production L.U.V.
Production starts this week on Sheldon Candis' L.U.V. movie with several actors attached to play including newcomer Michael Rainey Jr., and Dennis Haysbert ,Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, among others. In the original script by Candis and Justin Wilson, L.U.V. will be shot in Baltimore.
The film follows a day in the life of William “Woody” Watson, played by Rainey Jr., timid and shy 13-year-old looking for a family and a better life. In his ex-con Uncle Vincent, whose role Common plays, Woody hopes that he found the father figure he is missing in his life. But when Uncle wished some legal things to do he collides with the chaos of the past. Then Woody must decide whether to stay with his beloved uncle, or should be against him.
Common said for his role:
Vincent is a uniquely conflicted character. I found an appeal in his desire to move past his failures and onto the right track, and the challenges that presents.”
Producer Gordon Bijelonic added:
Finding an undiscovered talent like Michael Rainey Jr. doesn't happen often enough – the dynamic between his Woody and Common's Vincent brings an amazing energy to the project.”
L.U.V. producers are Jason M. Berman (Seven Days in Utopia), Gordon Bijelonic (Another Happy Day), Michael Jenson, Joel Newton, Datari Turner (Video Girl), Common and Derek Dudley.
Regardless of Common's previous acting experience, there are other people able to produce an interesting story. If the movie has been structured to tell its story, I hope Common gets well.
