Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter in Captain America

Fiona April 6, 2012 Add a Comment
Hayley AtwellHayley Atwell has been cast to star as Peggy Carter in this big upcoming Hollywood project, titled The First Avenger: Captain America. Guys at Marvel's were obsessed with finding a British actress for this role, and they got it! 28-year old Atwell will have a chance to play the lead female role in Joe Johnston‘s movie that we all expect to see in the US on July 22, 2011. At first, we must admit that we were little bit confused. You remember we wrote about some rumors that included British actresses like Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt. Ok, we soon heard that Knightley passed on this one, as well as Blunt (because she probably thinks that she's got good chances for a Catwoman in Batman 3) but on the other hand, at that moment, Alice Eve was said to be Marvel's top choice for the role. At the end, it was Eve or Atwell, and both actresses were called in for a second audition shortly after, and you get it pretty clear who won! For those of you who still don't have a clue who this young lady is, let us remind you that you all had a chance to watch her in the television miniseries The Prisoner or Saul Dibb's The Dutchess, as well as in Woody Allen's 2007 film Cassandra's Dream. So, Atwell will play the part of Peggy Carter who is Steve Rogers' girlfriend during World War II. Carter also was an American Agent with the French Resistance and has training as a spy, not afraid to use a gun. And just for a record, let us remind you that film will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Now we know who we're dealing with, since we already know Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers or Captain America, Sebastian Stan will play his sidekick Bucky Barnes, while Hugo Weaving is still in talks to play the film's villain Red Skull. Let's see what this young lady has to show us. We do expect a lot of action, mixed with some war-love-story, and we can only hope that Atwell is a good choice. With every new information about this one, we'll be right here, so stay tuned!
