Guy Ritchie to Direct Xerxes?
Warner Bros. has offered the sequel to Zack Snyder’s 300, or if you prefer – Xerxes to director Guy Ritchie!
Ok, we know that Snyder is very busy with Superman these days, but why Ritchie all of the sudden? We have no idea, but it’s going to be interesting to see how British director and The Sherlock Holmes helmer will handle this story!
According to Vulture, there are two “theories” about the whole thing. First, there’s a possibility that Warner Bros. wants Snyder’s attention focused squarely on “Man of Steel” at the moment, as sources tell them that the story is suffering some “major third act problems” and the studio wants to get the film out as soon as possible.
On the other hand, there’s another theory that goes like this:
“at a recent Warner Bros.-conducted audience research screening of Snyder’s “Sucker Punch”, the film tested poorly. Says one insider familiar with it, “It was bad; like, really bad. They’re [Warners brass] really not happy with it over there.”
Which one is valid? I’m sure we’ll soon have a chance to find out!
Zack Snyder on Xerxes
Director Zack Snyder already explained that his upcoming Xerxes will not be a “prequel or a sequel because it’s about the Battle of Artemisium, which took place during the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae which was depicted in 300”.
So, he’s writing the film, he has plans about the whole thing, but he’s in charge for directing Superman: The Man of Steel right now…
Still, he shared some interesting details about the upcoming project, in an interview:
“We’re doing all these sequences were the triremes all crash together,” Snyder explained.
Zack Snyder Starts Scripting Xerxes
Zack Snyder, the director of 300, has revealed that he and Kurt Johnstad have begun writing the script for Xerxes, which Snyder says is neither a sequel nor a prequel, saying:
“We closed the writing deal on Xerxes. We started writing about a week ago. So we’re doing it. It’s happening.”
So, as you see, things are moving forward, and yes, finally we have something official to share with you, guys! Check out the rest of this report for more details…
So, we already had a chance to hear from Frank Miller that the story of Xerxes is a larger, more expansive, more complex story than 300. Snyder also said that that the film wouldn’t just be more of the same.
Snyder on 300 Prequel and 3D Re-Release
It’s all about 3D in Hollywood right now, so you read this correctly, and Zack Snyder‘s 300 is not an exception.
This director has just revealed that Warner Bros has been considering re-releasing 300 in 3D theaters.
The studio converted a section of the film to 3D to show Snyder how great the conversion looked and…yeah, you already guess the rest of the story…
Frank Miller’s “300″ Prequel Is Called “Xerxes”
LA Times spoke with Frank Miller about the follow up to 30 (earned $456 million in theaters worldwide) which will be titles “Xerxes.” It takes place about ten years before the events of 300.
“It’s the battle of Marathon through my lens,” Miller said. “I’ve finished the plot and I’m getting started on the artwork.”
The Battle of Marathon was fought about 26 miles from Athens by an Athenian army against a Persian force led by the Emperor Darius I, in 490 BC. The Greeks numbers around 10,000 and the Persians anywhere from twice to ten times that.
